While working on my family tree I discovered that my great grandmother's first cousin, Margaret Hunter Mills Baker, had been married to Gladys Monroe's first husband, Jasper Newton Baker and they were from Flat Lick, Knox County, Kentucky. Then I saw Gladys Pearl Monroe's name in one of the files. Wow, that name sounds familiar and she was of course the mother of one of the most known Hollywood icons, Marilyn Monroe. How interesting that Jasper had taken his children by Gladys to Flat Lick and raised them in southeastern Kentucky then married Margaret. I think the story is sad to me. It made me realize that Berniece was right about how this area of the world is. I won't go into details but I do know my family was from Flat Lick, Kentucky and I have visited there - the area is gorgeous with the plush greenery, mountains, lovely landscape, however, it is coal country.
I am glad this book was written because it shows the raw side of people. The hardships, the bits and pieces of happiness, a story to be told. I feel this books depicts that Norma Jeane Baker was a real person who strived to become a bigger then light person and she did. Breaks my heart how her life ended and how she allowed people to use her. I enjoyed this book and was glad Berniece mentioned that my relative, Margaret, was nice to her.

My Sister Marilyn A Memoir of Marilyn Monroe eBook Berniece Miracle Mona Miracle Reviews

It's so nice reading something that an actual family member wrote instead of all these ghosts writers that are out here.
If you are a true Marilyn fan, then this is a book you must read. I have read many books about her life but I try to only read the books that are written by those who really knew her. Who better knows her than her own sister. This book gives great insight into the other life that Marilyn never showed to the public. Norma Jean had a family life that may have not been normal, but she still had one and it is very evident from this book that she had people around that loved her very much. She was a movie star but she was so relatable and loving. I highly recommend this book to any avid fan and anyone who wants robin's who the true Marilyn was. I also recommend the book Marilyn and Me by Susan Strausberg.
Easy to read, but I felt at times that the sister's image of the "real" Marilyn was through rose-colored glasses. Several items also go against other biographies and research done on MM's life. Overall - food for thought and a different perspective to consider.
I just finished reading this book and couldn't put it down. I loved it. It was so insightful. The authors didn't mention anything about Marilyn's relationship with the Kennedy brothers nor does she say who Marilyn's biological father was. I just saw on the internet where another woman has come forward saying she is the daughter of Marilyn and JFK and was born in 1962. The photo of the woman is the spitting image of Marilyn.
This book seems to leave out a lot. Maybe her sister didn't know some things. It was good to read about their bond and Marilyn's childhood.
Pictures and letters are shared in the book. Real sister to sister things. Very good book overall.
Easy to read book. It is interesting because it adds a slightly different description of Marilyn and her life. So often we read about her childhood, her parents, her teen years, early marriage, and the start of her career in modeling and acting. Her sister Berniece knew Marilyn through parts of these times. She shares a "sister's view" of Marilyn... perhaps in some less guarded times.
A good & quick read for Marilyn fans who want to see her in a different way. Letters, photos, and remembrances of visits and conversations with two sisters who met when they were teens.
For Marilyn, who always looked for a connection with people, this must have been a relationship she enjoyed away from the spotlight and crowds. Maybe she really was able to relax here & be her pre-movie star self.
Someone should have helped Bernice to write more flowing. I got that it was meant to be homespun. It was almost to homespun. At times it felt empty. To turn around and be heartfelt and sweet. I know Marilyn s sister wanted To change how people saw Marilyn. But in that attempt it made the presentation seem empty of a lot of truths ,more than what was presented. In protecting her secrets much was left to covert answers, ideas, hollow feeling. It left me wanting to know more. It was sweet and it did change some of my personal thoughts from other things , others wrote about Marilyn. I know the press and how they distort everything. But there are those that can think for themselves and we love our Marilyn Monroe.
